What to you says, “spring has sprung in Rhode Island and Massachusetts?!" Maybe it’s taking out the deck furniture, maybe it’s the seasonal ice cream place that has reopened, or maybe it’s postal workers wearing shorts. It is now May and all the aromas, animals, and allergies of the season are here.
We recently invited some of the RPL family to answer this question as a reminder of all the little things that make springtime and Southern New England special.
So, RPL, what tells you that spring has sprung?

“For me, it’s when the cherry tree first is in blossom. I am greeted from my front porch onto the sidewalk by trees soon in full bloom. The petals fall like pink snowflakes covering the walkway, reminding me of the beginning of new life that slowly transitions to full bloom with the next season arriving and falling; so is the circle of life, each season bringing its own beauty.”

“The daffodils mean new beginnings for spring. My dad, who I lost in 2018, planted daffodils in the yard of my first house as a surprise. The following spring, they came up and my children and I knew it had to be him. After over 30 years in that home, I dug up quite a few and they are now at my new home.”

“Spring to me is Opening Day of baseball! It's usually cold, but at least I know warmer days are coming. This year, I was super excited to attend the Red Sox Opening Day because my favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles, played against the Sox – and won! Here is a pic of me with my best friend from college, who lives in MA and invited me to go with her.”

Tom Wegner, Sales Associate, Barrington
“When my dog Moose will go outside without any coaxing because it's not too cold any longer. Grass starts to green up, crocuses and other bulb flowers begin to bloom, and the air smells fresh and clean. I love making the call to the landscaper for a ‘spring cleanup.’"

Alicia Reynolds, Sales Associate, Barrington
“Spring to me is when this little bird couple shows up at our side door and chooses to make our mailbox the base for their nest. Knowing how stressful the nesting process can be, we all – the mailman, dogs, all of us – reorient ourselves to just use our front door until the babies hatch and the birds go off to a downsized nest (or get a condo!).”

Monica Sye, Sales Associate, Cumberland
“Spring has sprung when local Attleboro businesses centered in its historic downtown have filled and set out their seasonal planters. What better way to create those airy spring vibes than lining the streets with a beautiful pop of color and fresh greenery.”

Kathleen Perreault, Sales Associate, East Greenwich
“Spring is about new life, new adventures, and more opportunities to show off RI at its best.”

Brian Janes, Sales Associate, Westport
“That's easy for me – it's when the shadbush around my pond in Tiverton comes into bloom! It happens shortly after the peepers begin; a sure sign of spring's arrival.”

John Reposa, Broker Associate, Newport
“Spring in Rhode Island…I wait all winter thinking of our state motto, ‘Hope.’ And then it appears in our front yard. Timeless beauty.”

Linda Duarte, Sales Associate, Cumberland
“Nothing screams spring to me more than the pretty colors of apple trees blossoming and the faint sound of the worker bees pollinating.”

Joe Roch, Broker Associate, West Side PVD
“I really feel like it's spring during Southside Community Land Trust's annual plant sale every May!”

Johanna Mulholland, Sales Associate, Newport
“I know spring has sprung when Wicked Tulip Farm opens. Every year, I visit the farm and buy two dozen tulips!”

Perky Nellissen, Office Administrator, Little Compton
“I know everyone loves the daffodils, and believe me I do as well, but what really gets me excited for spring is getting into a sun-heated car for the first time after the cold of winter. I just want to sit and enjoy the heat.”
