On Friday, November 26, the annual Buy Nothing Coat Drive successfully collected items to help Rhode Islanders stay warmer this winter. Local freelance journalist Nancy Kirsh (RI Monthly, Providence Business News) assisted in this year’s effort by starting the donation drive at Kettle Point, then reaching out to Residential Properties and other partners. We are proud to be one of the participating companies that contributed to this success.
“It was heartwarming – no pun intended – to see so many people come to the coat drive site on Friday and leave with what they needed and wanted,” Kirsh said. “It was a great honor working nonstop with our group of dedicated volunteers, including some very sweet LaSalle Academy students this year.”
The Buy Nothing Coat Drive began over 20 years ago, occurring every Black Friday, as a way to give rather than spend during the holidays. Those in need of warmth meet at donation sites around the state to receive gently used winter gear. The holiday spirit was alive at this year’s event, as volunteers collected and distributed dozens of needed items, including 182 coats/jackets/vests, 72 hats/warm headbands, 68 pairs of gloves/mittens, 34 heavy sweatshirts/sweaters, and much more.

We thank every RPL colleague who donated and participated this year!
