RPL Colleagues Raise Money at Rotary’s

On the evening of Tuesday October 26 at the Providence Marriott Downtown, The Rotary Club of Providence held their annual gala fundraiser “Legends for Literacy.” RPL Broker Associate Holly Applegate is the current President of The Rotary Club of Providence and RPL VP of Corporate and Relocation Services Liz Messier is a Rotary board member. Holly and Liz have worked tirelessly in support of the organization and children’s literacy in Rhode Island, taking essential roles in the planning and logistics of Tuesday’s event. Guests enjoyed a reception and dinner followed by a live auction offering special items and experiences. Residential Properties is proud to continue its support for The Rotary Club of Providence as a Division Champion Sponsor. According to the Rotary International website, the organization connects volunteers in over 200 countries and geographical areas to address the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.

The Rotary Club of Providence was successful in surpassing the sponsorships raised from their last gala in 2019. Through the support of individuals and companies across Rhode Island, the state will make considerable strides in awareness and support for youth and adult literacy. Funds raised will help support local schools gain access to the MyON digital reader, a virtual library of reading material targeted to each student’s needs. Programs such as these are critical in providing children and adults with a fuller command of the English language and increasing graduation rates statewide.

Highlights of Tuesday’s gala included the presentation of a Lifetime Education Award to local entrepreneur Arthur Robbins, owner of Marriott Hotels, who helped start Rhode Island's first charter school. Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green gave remarks in praise of the organization. Superintendent Javier Montañez spoke following his acceptance of the Richard Kaplan Partnership Award for partnership between the Providence School District and The Rotary Club. Prior to this event, on Monday, October 25, former New England Patriot Malcolm Mitchell supported the organization by giving a “Reading Rally” at the Harry Kizirian School. Students received 600 copies of his latest literacy book, “My Very Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World.”

Our heartfelt congratulations to Holly and Liz for their amazing accomplishment! If you’re interested in the work of Providence’s local Rotary chapter or want to learn how you can become a member, please visit ProvidenceRotary.org
