This week, agents from Residential Properties Ltd.'s Cumberland office made their annual contribution to the Happy Basket Program. The Happy Basket Program is celebrating its 24th year, and has been distributing food baskets and toys during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to Cumberland families in need since 1992. Every November, volunteers meet on the Thursday night before Thanksgiving to assemble 300 baskets. The baskets are then distributed to Cumberland families the following week. The program expects to distribute over 700 food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. The Happy Baskets Program is looking for donations and volunteers for the Christmas season. The Basket Assembly is held Thursday, December 15th, with additional events the following week. Anyone interested in volunteering to sort donations, wrap gifts or assemble baskets is asked to call John Johnson at 487-1282. Food and toy donations are encouraged to be dropped off at the Cumberland Senior Center where volunteers assemble the baskets. Donations can also be made by check payable to “The HAPPY Basket Program” and mailed to P.O. Box 7611; Cumberland, RI 02864.
