10 Rhode Island Apple Orchards You Need To Check Out

There are plenty of things to do around the state this season, including some wonderful local apple orchards to spend an afternoon and enjoy some local produce. Here are a few suggestions to get your Fall apple picking started. Pippin Apple Orchard - Cranston, RI Located just 20 minutes from Providence,  Pippin Apple Orchard  has 20 acres of land devoted mostly to fruit trees which are sold at their fruit stand while in season. The orchard features Pick-Your-Own apples every day from 10AM-4PM–just check out their  Facebook  or give them a call at 401-943-7096 before you head over.  751 Pippin Orchard Rd, Cranston, RI  Harmony Farms -  Glocester, RI What originally began as a house built in 1796   has since been restored to the 28 acre farm it is today. According to its  website, Harmony Farms has six acres of blueberries, two acres of apples, one acre of peaches and large patches of blackberries and raspberries. Apple picking season runs from September until the end of October and is available for picking daily (except Mondays) 9AM-5PM.  359 Saw Mill Road, Harmony, RI

Dame Farm and Orchards - Johnston, RI Dame Farm and Orchards  in Johnston is proud to serve local families since 1840. Their Orchard is over seven acres and each tree is tagged with the variety of apple and what that apple is good for. Each apple is priced the same ($1.65/pound with a $10 minimum) and a picking bag is provided. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:30PM and weekends 9:30AM-5PM.  91 Brown Ave, Johnston, RI Young Family Farm - Little Compton, RI Young Family Farm  is a family owned and operated farm with a five acre apple orchard that holds over 10 different varieties of apples that are available for Pick-Your-Own from September to the end of October. The farm has an annual Apple Festival–this year on October 10th and 11th–with music, apple picking, hayrides, and other fun fall activities. Regular farm hours from September to November are Thursday-Sunday 10am-5pm.  260 W Main Rd,  Little Compton, RI  Sweet Berry Farm - Middletown, RI Sweet Berry Farm  is a “post-and-beam” farm market sitting on 100 acres of preserved farmland near the beaches and downtown Newport. They offer a variety of local products and offer a variety of Pick-Your-Own options starting in early June. Currently, visitors are able to pick their own apples until early October. The farm is open every day from 8AM-7PM from April to December.  915 Mitchell's Lane, Middletown, RI  Rocky Brook Orchard - Middletown, RI The family run  Rocky Brook Orchard  is known as Aquidneck Island’s original Pick-Your-Own apple orchard. Rocky Brook has quite the selection with over 60 varieties of apples including rare kinds. A list of the apples can be found on their  website. The orchard is open rain or shine every Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-4:30PM and are open weekdays for groups by special appointments. Before you visit, they recommend checking out their  Facebook page  to see what apples are ripe.   997 Wapping Rd,  Middletown, RI Narrow Lane Orchard - North Kingstown, RI Down quiet Narrow Lane in North Kingstown is the  Narrow Lane Orchard–a quaint family owned and operated orchard that offers twelve kinds of apples that visitors can pick themselves. The orchard is open daily from 10AM-5PM, but it’s recommended to call first at 401-294-3584.  213 Narrow Ln, North Kingstown, RI Elwood Orchard - North Scituate, RI It may not be large, but  Elwood Orchard  in North Scituate has a lot to offer including certified organic apples that you can pick yourself.   The orchard is also helping the bee population by tending their own bees and offering their own honey. They are proud that their apples are grown "the old fashioned way" by cross-pollination and many of their apple varieties are pest resistant allowing their produce to be certified organic! This season, Elwood Orchard is open seven days a week from 9AM-5PM, call ahead of time to make sure they’re open and doing Pick-Your-Own apples that day (401-949-0390).  58 Snake Hill Road, North Scituate, RI

Jaswell's Farm - Smithfield, RI Jaswell’s Farm  is known as the oldest operating apple orchard in Smithfield and is run by the fourth generation of the Jaswell Family. The orchard started in 1899 and has since expanded to grow a variety of products and feature an on-site bakery and a pasteurizer for apple cider. The apple picking season runs through most of October and the farm is open daily from 8AM-5PM.  50 Swan Road, Smithfield, RI Steere Orchard - Smithfield, RI Located in Greenville,  Steere Orchard  is a fourth generation family orchard starting in 1930. Today, Steere Orchard is one of the largest orchards in Rhode Island and features about one dozen varieties of Pick-Your-Own apples. The orchard is open seven days a week, 9AM-5PM and even has free hayrides on the weekends! 150 Austin Ave, Greenville, RI
