Living in the smallest state at times has its perks. Rhode Island has such a strong sense of community statewide, especially during the summer months when the weather's nice. For example, local farmers and artisans get together weekly–and sometimes twice a week–to share their produce and talents with the communities of the Ocean State. I put together a few great farmers markets around the state, and be sure to check out the ones in your area and beyond! Providence & The East Side
Cranston - The Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market runs from May 9th to October 31st on Saturdays from 9am-1pm. The market in the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet Parking Lot is currently in its 13th season! The market has an array of vendors as well as spaces for community groups and events. An event calendar and list of vendors can be found on their website. The East Side - The Hope Street Farmers Market is a farmer run co-op that sells home grown or made produce, baked goods, meats, seafoods, and much more. The farmers market runs twice a week on Wednesday afternoons from 3-6pm and Saturday mornings 9am-1pm. Head down to Lippitt Park for some great local goods, and check online to see who will be there! East Bay Bristol - Right off of Metacom Ave in the South Pasture of Mount Hope Farm is a year round Farmers Market held every Saturday–rain or shine–from 9am-1pm. The market is fun for the whole family and you can walk the beautiful grounds and say "hello" to the animals after shopping! For more information, check out the Mount Hope Farmers Market website. Barrington - Every Wednesday from May to the end of October from 2-6pm, Haines State Park holds a market with venders from all over the state. Every week is different, so check the schedule before visiting to see what's going to be there. West Bay Coventry - If you're looking for organic produce, look no further than the Ezekiel Potter Homestead. The market is open four days a week with great selections of local produce. Hours can be found on their website. Warwick - From the beginning of May to the end of October, Goddard State Park hosts a farmers market every Friday from 9am-1pm. Venders from all over the state take part in the market, and are listed on the market's website. Newport County Jamestown - At the Fort Getty Pavillion from the end of June to the end of August, a farmers market is held rain or shine every Monday from 4-7pm. The market has local produce, meats, crafts, and artwork from a variety of vendors. Aquidneck Island - The Aquidneck Growers’ Market runs three farmers markets on the Island during both the summer and winter seasons. The summer markets are located at the Newport Vineyard & Winery in Middletown on Saturdays 9am-1pm and on Memorial Boulevard in Newport on Wednesdays from 2-6pm. Harrisville - Since 2007, the Burrillville Farmers Market Association has been promoting local farm and garden products to support the rural Burrillville life. The market is every Saturday from June through September from 9:30AM-12:30PM at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion. Scituate - Every Saturday from 9am-1pm, the Scituate Farmers Market is held rain or shine at the North Scituate Public Library. From May 9th through October 3rd, the market offers locally grown seasonable produce and local meats. Enjoy live music while shopping around hand crafted goods from local artists and grab some lunch at one of the many food trucks. A calendar of events can be found on their website. South County Block Island - Block Island has two farmers markets a week–one in the Manisses Parking Lot on Wednesdays 9-11:30am from June 11th-September 7th and in Negus Park every Saturday 9-11:30am from June 11th-October 12th. Both markets are held rain or shine! Markets offer locally produced items like honey, jelly, pasta, sauces as well as baked goods, arts and crafts. Charlestown - The Charlestown Land Trust hosts a Farmers Market at the Church of the Holy Spirit from 9:30am to 1pm every Friday morning from June 26th-August 28th. Attleboro - On O'Connell Field in Capron Park, the Attleboro Farmers Market runs from 9am-1pm on Saturdays from June 20th-October 24th. The market not only features food, but it also hosts events and showcases local artists and musicians. Keep up with them on their Facebook page.
