Have you been told by National Grid that you have to move your gas meter to the outside of your house? The Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission wants you to know that an Owner Waiver Form is currently available to protect historic homes. National Grid is responsible for the safety of gas lines and would like to be able to have convenient access to their meters for inspection. With the amount of meters that need to be inspected annually, National Grid would prefer to make it as easy as possible for their technicians to get to gain access to each one. However, many homeowners who have invested to restore historic properties, do not want the unsightly meters on the front of their properties. If you decide that you want to keep your meter inside your home, you will be required to fill out the waiver. As a stipulation, you will also have to agree to allow National Grid timely access to the meter as needed to perform maintenance. Denying access, could result in the termination of service. If you would like to keep the meter inside your historic home, simply fill out the waiver and submit it to National Grid.
