As a member of the Providence Rotary Club, Elizabeth Messier recently welcomed a high school student to Residential Properties Ltd. as part of Providence Schools’ “Career Day.” Messier, who is Vice President of Relocation at RPL, was honored to have Central High’s Maria Lux shadow her for the day in order to gain insight regarding the inner workings of the real estate business.
The purpose of the event is to introduce students to a professional environment so they can understand what it takes to be a professional employee in a professional environment. “I believe it benefits young adults to get a sneak peek at careers that are out there for them,” explains Maria. “It’s a great opportunity to interact with people and see what they do on an everyday basis at work.” Armed with a booklet of business related questions, students arrived at their respective businesses first thing in the morning. In addition to filling out their booklets and taking a tour of the offices, students were also asked to participate in a scavenger hunt of sorts, and were directed to collect items such as business cards, notepads, and other simple items. Maria hopes to become a lawyer in the future, but for one day, the sophomore immersed herself in the world of real estate with one of Rhode Island’s premier brokers. When asked what she took away from her time at RPL’s corporate office, Maria responded, “I was very fond to learn that Residential Properties has a great staff who are dependable, hard working, and caring. I also learned that the business really varies depending on the client’s choices in finding a new home.” After spending the first half of the day at the company office, Maria accompanied Messier to a lunch meeting with the Providence Rotary Club where students were asked to share their experiences from the day. “I was delighted to spend my day at Residential Properties,” Maria said. “I had great time. It was a thrilling experience, and I would not change it for something else.” Messier and the entire Residential Properties office were proud to host Maria for the day, and wish her all the best with her future endeavors.
