On May 30th, 283 students in Cranston participated in Edward S. Rhodes Elementary School’s second annual Health Walk, and Residential Properties Ltd. was one of the sponsors. The students walked a little over two miles, heading from Rhodes to Narragansett Bay and back, and raised $5,500 for their school. Signs along the route promoted exercise and facts about healthy and unhealthy food. Decked out in red Rhodes t-shirts, they enjoyed snacks, drinks, and games at the end of the walkathon, which was organized by the school’s PTA, and a nutritionist gave a talk to the students about healthy eating. Prizes were given to the classes with the greatest percentage of students who collected pledges and donations. With 82% participation, Mrs. Neary’s second grade class won first place and received a pizza party. Mrs. Russell’s first grade class came in second, with 79% participation, and Mrs. Silva’s first grade class came in third, with 74% participation. The fundraiser earned $1,800 more than last year and will be used to fund school wide events, such as cultural arts presentations, family events, and field trips.Walking For Rhodes
