Cumberland Home Featured as House of the Week

A property listed by Donna Ellis, an agent from our Cumberland Office, was featured in the Providence Journal this morning as the House of the Week. Set at 26 Hillside Road in Cumberland, this Cape was previously featured on the real estate segment of the Today Show, which we blogged about in October. Built in the early 20th century and located in the Arnold Mills Historic District, this country abode has all the charm and quirk of a special property, but is listed at an affordable price. Originally built as a grain house for a working farm, 26 Hillside Road wasn’t made into a home until the early 1940s. Consequentially, the existing structure is full of those little details that foster a warm and interesting living environment.   With original features like feeding troughs in the basement, a hayloft door over the garage and a hitching post in the yard, owners will experience farm-life on a daily basis. 26 Hillside’s special character is continued in the interior, which presents a country feel from top to bottom, without sacrificing contemporary comforts. This is most obvious in the kitchen, which manages to seem quaint while providing up-to-date appliances and modern functionality. The sun room has been transformed into the perfect year-round destination, with a  terra-cotta tile floor, baseboard electrical heat and spectacular views of the property. The living and dining rooms display the handmade woodwork of the original owner, with fir floors and pine walls that heighten the home's spirited atmosphere. The master suite is spacious and inviting, with a den on one side of the stairs and a bedroom on the other. These rooms feature a wood-burning stove and built-in bookshelves, adding a charm and functionality to the space.   Although it is currently a two bedroom home, there is tremendous potential for expansion within the current structure. The walk-in attic space over the three car garage is quite large and could easily be made into a spectacular master suite, studio, office, gym or game room. Even more, the three stall barn has recently been renovated, and the current complex would make a wonderful artist’s studio or rec-room. Surrounded by old stone walls and beautifully landscaped gardens, the yard is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy all the land has to offer. Set on a quiet road, within walking distance to the elementary school, an apple orchard and Cumberland’s own Vineyard,   26 Hillside is the perfect retreat for individuals who desire a cozy and unique living atmosphere.
