A 12-month immersion program with Roger Williams University will help candidates for the Masters of Arts in teaching degree and elementary teacher certification obtain their goals. The curriculum emphasizes multicultural education and teaching for social justice. This is a great opportunity for Roger Williams students to gain valuable hands on experience working side by side with Gordon teachers. St. Andrews School – Barrington, RI
Not only is theater a great way to meet people in your community, but is also helpful for improving public speaking skills. Having recently moved from Providence to Barrington, The All Childrens Theater is working to build up St. Andrews Performing Arts Program and will hold eight-week after school programs for children 4-15 this fall. Community theater rehearsals will go on throughout the school year, with performances planned for the spring. Moses Brown School – Providence, RI Strengthening students connections in the broader world, Moses Brown will spend the year focusing on their global stewardship program. From the early learning program to grade 12, this program is intended to develop skills to live and lead in the 21st century.
Pennfield School – Portsmouth, RI It's never too early to develop an interest in languages and science. This year, a Spanish and science learning program will be available to Pennfield School's youngest students. A basic introduction to these subjects will be taught in visiting nursery and pre-K schools and more time will be spent in the community garden, teaching students where fruits and vegetables come from. St. George's School – Newport, RI Encouraging students to spend more time reading and studying, the St. George's library is undergoing an $8 million dollar renovation and addition project. This new complex will be ready for the 2011-2012 school year and will no doubt offer the students state-of-the-art means to access literary and online resources. Located across the East Bay and Providence areas, these 5 schools are working hard to improve the quality of learning for their students. From capital improvements to new fields of study, these innovations will no doubt make a significant difference in their communities.
