Bristol is known for being “America’s most patriotic town,” but did you know there is plenty to do throughout the state (even in your area) to celebrate the fourth? Here are some patriotic – and free! – events to celebrate our country’s independence.

July 1

Warwick’s annual firework display is held at Oakland Beach Seawall at 9pm. Fireworks can be seen from the Warwick City Park.

July 2

The Town of Smithfield and Bryant University present a patriotic concert by the US Navy Show Band from the Newport Naval Station. The campus opens to the public at 6pm with the concert at 8pm, followed by a fireworks display around 9pm.

July 3

Head down to Pierce Memorial Stadium in East Providence at 6pm for a music and fireworks show! Catch the concert featuring Gina Wesley & Dream Catcher, Kicking Hole, and Crushed Velvet. Fireworks will begin at 9pm.

North Providence’s Governor John A. Notte Jr. Park hosts a food court and live entertainment from 6-9pm, followed by a fireworks display.

Fireworks on Block Island off the Town Beach Pavilion can be seen from most areas around the island and begin at 9pm.
It’s always a party in Bristol around the Fourth of July! Head down to Independence Park for the Concert Series and watch the fireworks down by the water around 9:30pm.

July 4

At the intersection of Chestnut and Hope Street begins the annual Bristol Fourth of July Parade! Head over for the famous, day-long celebration starting at 10:30am.

Cumberland kicks off their July Fourth festivities with a road race beginning at Arnold Mills. Afterwards, attend a parade and a patriotic concert. This event begins at 11am.

The annual Block Island July 4th Parade and Steak Fry starts at the Legion Hall at 11am with a Sports and Games Parade featuring floats, music, and marching. After the parade, the Fire Barn hosts its annual Steak Fry benefiting the Block Island Fire Department from 12:30-2pm.

The 90th Annual Ancient and Horribles Parade in Glocester is sure to bring laughter to the whole family! The parade is held at Chepachet Village and begins at 4pm.


The City of Providence has a huge Independence Day Celebration beginning at 4:30pm at India Point Park with food, entertainment, and fun! For a full list of events, including details on the Bike Parade, Latin Rockers Santa Mamba, and firework display visit the event website. 

The Narragansett Town Beach party goes all day, beginning in the afternoon with Santasia, followed by a performance by Brass Force from 5-7pm on the North Beach Clubhouse deck. Fireworks will display at dusk.

Enjoy live music at South Kingstown’s Old Mountain Field by Waits Corner and the Westmoreland Street Jammers as well as food, games, and concessions. The event begins at 5:30pm with fireworks at 9pm.

Westerly’s Misquamicut Beach (Wuskenau Beach Pond Side) will have their firework display at dusk.

All the way down the southernmost end of East Greenwich Cove at Scallop Town Park will be fireworks displays at 9pm.

Newport’s fireworks display over Newport Harbor begins after dark, around 9:15pm, and can be seen from Newport Harbor, Fort Adams, Kings Park, and all along the waterfront. Parking is available at Fort Adams and the Visitor’s Center.

Escobar’s Highland Farm in Portsmouth will have their traditional fireworks display over the cow pastures beginning at 9:30pm.

Memorial Day is upon us, and the weather looks like it’s going to turn out to be a nice one. This weekend is notorious for busy travels, but there’s plenty to do in our own backyard. Here’s a few ideas to get your plans started!

Barrington‘s Memorial Day cereominies begin at 8:30AM at Barrington High School, while the parade (featuring the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife and Drum Corps) kicks off at 9:30AM at the intersection of Upland Way and Lincoln Avenue and ends in front of the Town Hall where refreshments will be served.  At 11AM there will be a brief Blue Star Memorial Marker Dedication Ceremony presented by the Barrington and Hameho Garden Clubs at Police Cove Park.

Gaspee Days Arts & Crafts Festival – Warwick RI Tourism Department


The Gaspee Days Committee has been committed since 1965 to bringing the Warwick community a free, fun, and family-friendly Arts & Crafts Festival each year, spanning three days over Memorial Day weekend. The festival features over 100 fine artisans as well as community groups and nonprofit organizations selling exclusive items only sold at this event. The festival also has musical performances, food, and games. Who doesn’t like a good ol’ parade? The annual Memorial Day Parade in Attleboro steps off Monday at 10AM at the former Knights of Columbus Hall on 2 Hodges Street, and travels to Capron Park where there will be a ceremony at about 11:30AM. According to The Sun Chronicle, this year’s grand marshal will be Norman Belmarce, a World War II veteran who saw combat with the Merchant Marines.

There’s not one, but two parades to choose from this year in South County. The Charlestown Memorial Day Parade attracts thousands of spectators each year and features around 700 participants. The Charlestown Parade starts at Cross Mills, Old Post Road, at 1pm and heads to Ninigret Park for ceremonies and a concert by the Wakefield Concert Band.

The Hope Valley Memorial Day Parade begins this year at 1:30PM on Monday, and ends right at Billy Hill’s Roadhouse where they’re hosting a Memorial Day Cookout right after the parade!

Also, Right on Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, The Andrea Beach Bar is hosting four days of events to kick off the unofficial start of summer. Check out their facebook page to see the list of music entertainment and when the dance parties are happening!

Hope High School Carnival – Rockwell Amusements & Promotions


Hope High School in Providence is hosting a Memorial Day Carnival! From tomorrow night all the way until Sunday, head to the school for a family fun time! Carnival hours are: Friday 6-10PM, Saturday & Sunday 1-11PM, and Monday 1-9PM.

If you’re looking for something to do in the area on Saturday during the day, head to the Hope Street Farmers’ Market starting at 9AM featuring music from Hope Tunnel and food trucks from Gilded Tomato and Rocket. Guest vendors include Fox Point Pickling and Olive del Mondo.

NORTH PROVIDENCE is hosting their yearly Memorial Day Parade spanning throughout Mineral Spring and Douglas avenues beginning at North Providence High School at 1PM. The parade ends at the Governor John A. Notte, Jr Park where festivities including music, entertainment, and food will go on until 6PM.
