It is amazing to see how much vinyl has continued to thrive with its recent revival. CDs are falling out of favor due to streaming and digital, but vinyl is still going strong and record stores are continuing to be a hub of the community. On April 21st you can celebrate Record Store Day, an international event for brick-and-mortar record stores where you can participate in local events and find exclusive albums. This is a great opportunity to discover all of the music options in your neighborhood and to help support local businesses.
Record Store Day was first celebrated on April 19, 2008, which makes this year a special 10th anniversary of the holiday. A Record Store Day Ambassador has been picked for the event every year and has included the likes of Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Chuck D, and St. Vincent. This year’s ambassador is the group, Run the Jewels.

2017 is coming to a close and many of us want to get rid of it in style. Cheer into the New Year surrounded by live music, food, and laughs by attending one of these fabulous events around Rhode Island.
This is the first ever Outdoor Ball Drop in Providence. The festivities include food and activities as well as a Fireworks Finale. The outdoor events, including the laser-light show, are all free while the indoor services require ticket purchases. Everything goes down at 1 Finance Way at Waterplace Park beginning at 7pm. The outdoor events are free, but VIP and indoor tickets are available for $75 and $150.
Dave and Buster’s has two separate events going on at the same location. A Family New Year’s goes from 5-8pm and includes a video ball drop while featuring multiple packages ranging from $30-$45. The Adult New Year’s event runs from 9pm-12:30am with packages ranging from $50-$75.
ProvG Midnight Masquerade
Food, cocktails, and even a red carpet create a stunning atmosphere at ProvG. So put on your best mask and enjoy this New Year’s party starting at 8pm. Tickets are $85-$100. 21+
NYE Southern Style Dinner & Game Night in GPub
Partake in a BBQ buffet at GPub with a pig roast, chicken and waffles, and plenty more. Finish the night by enjoying yourself at a DJ after party. Tickets and group packages range from $30-$520. 21+
Star Light, Star Bright NYE Celebration
This party under the stars will be held at The Rooftop. DJ, food, and champagne are provided. The party starts at 8pm and goes until 2am. $75 per person. 21+
Experience R&B star Tank along with an All-Star DJ lineup. Doors open at 8pm, while the ball drop and after party start at Midnight. Tickets go from $45-$105.
Enjoy Reggaeton sound with Dominican singer Don Miguelo at The Strand in Providence. Tickets are $40 and the show starts at 10 pm.
Enjoy bowling, live music, and a dinner buffet at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston. Family packages and Lane Rentals are available with amenities included.
The Crowne Plaza in Warwick will be holding a New Year’s Event with packages at $150 and $290. A cash bar will be present and packages can include overnight stays for two at the hotel.
Ninigret Park in Charlestown is holding a bonfire from 4:30-7pm near the Criterion Bike Track. Free Admission for all.
Enjoy Brick Alley Pub’s Annual Wine Dinner with appetizers and multiple courses. Located right on Thames Street in Newport, the event will be held from 7pm-1am and is $89 per person.
This is the only night Eli’s in Warren takes reservations and it’s well worth it, with the restaurant offering a four course menu that includes gluten-free and vegan options. The meal is $60 per person and several time slots are available for reservations.
The Skiff Bar is holding a New Year’s Masquerade at the Newport Marriott with a Cajun inspired menu. Tickets are $20 a person or $30 for couples, and that price includes a raffle ticket to win one of their great prizes. 21+
Enjoy award-winning improv in the style of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. Three hour-long shows begin at 7pm, 9pm, and 11pm. Each show is BYOB and will be performed at the Firehouse Theater in Newport. $20 per person per show.
New Year’s Day. The run for the water will be at Noon, but festivities start at 9am on Easton Beach. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

This is a great spot to eat outdoors, enjoy the weather and have a decent meal prepared by this family owned restaurant.
